Fake Cohiba Pyramides EL 2009
Thursday, May 14th, 2009As the most premium and famous cigar brand, Cohiba is inevitably the most counterfeited brand. We have all seen or heard about the world famous glass-top esplendido box, the most popular fake cigar. Unfortunately, fake cigars have been getting closer in detail to the real thing, making it hard for the potential buyer to identify whether the cigars are fake or genuine.
However, a friend of cigars.ie spotted these fakes in Mexico. The crafty counterfeiters decided to release a Limited Edition 2009 Cohiba Piramide before Habanos S.A.! As you can see in the pictures, everything is far from close to detail. Glass top box, Habanos seal, Cohiba labels, Edicion Limitada labels and the bad quality of the cigars makes it easy to spot their authenticity. We wish all fake cigars were that easy to identify!

To be honest, judging from the photos, I think a lot of people would be fooled by the appearance of these cigars. The taste would be a different matter altogether, but by then it would be too late.
I agree with Sean, these look like very good counterfeits, and having just returned from a tour of the Cibao valley in Dominican Republic, I can say, I’ve seen a lot of fakes.
A cigar newbie could definitely be fooled by ‘em.
Γιώργο, μόλις κάπνισα (έτσι για το γαμώτο) το τελευταίο από μια κούτα (25) Fake Cohiba Pyramides EL 2005 (!). Ήρθαν από Κούβα από χέρι από Κουβανό διεθνή αθλητή που ζούσε Ελλάδ ατην εποχή εκείνη (πιθανόν και σήμερα, αφού είναι πλέον γαμπρός στην Ελλάδα). Είχαν εξαιρετική κατασκευή, άψογη συσκευασία, το μόνο που δεν γνώριζα ήταν ότι το 2005 δεν είχε EL Cohiba Pyramides. Κατά τα άλλα ήταν ένα απλό πούρο, όχι ιδιαίτερα άσχημο, σαφώς longfiller, από καπνό και όχι Palmas, αλλά παραπάνω δεν γνωρίζω τίποτε. Φυσικά και κατά σύμπτωση ήρθαν στα χέρια μου, αφού ήταν το μόνο κουτί που αγόρασα από “χέρι″
the one main thing i’ve learned from experience, as well as internet research and the ukcigarforum, is that habanos SA absolutely never release anything contained in a glass top box, that’s the no.1 give away!!! also, for true fan’s and aficionados, the information about EL’s is easily available from all good habanos dealers and from the habanos website (we all would’ve known that there was no cohiba EL 2009)! however, i do agree that the fakes are becoming very good in their construction and appearance, the labels etc are near perfect! it’s even been said that they’re quite smokeable, well, just about! anyway, let’s face facts though, if you’ve smoked real cubans, eg, cohiba, then you know how they taste and you would know to avoid these like the plague, especially the ones on sale in mexico and the dominican republic!

Το θέμα με τα fakes τραβάει πολύ συζήτηση…
‘Ολοι μας λιγο πολύ, κάποια στιγμή την έχουμε πατήσει! Κάποιες φορές οι ατέλειες είναι τόσο προφανείς που εύκολα καταλαβαίνεις οτι τα πούρα είναι μαιμού (όπως στην φωτογραφία). ‘Αλλες φορές, είναι σχεδόν τέλεια και καθένας μπορεί να την πατήσει…
Για να είσαι σίγουρος, ψώνιζε πάντα απο αξιόπιστες πηγες. ‘Αν η τιμή έιναι πολύ χαμήλή, άρχισε να υποψιάζεσαι… π.χ. όπου δείς Cohiba Robusto με $150 όπως αναφέρεις, είναι κατα 99.99% fake.

Dear friends gave us a box of Cohiba Esplendido’s from their trip to Cuba. Though fakes… they not too bad.
Girlfriend just returned from a Carrib cruise and wanted to suprise me. Guess what?….yep the ol’ Glass Box 2011. It was so obvious the nasty green/brown color of the leaves. I lit one up anyway. Nasty, and the burn was was so bad I was laughing. A burn hole actually developed 1/2 inch ABOVE the actual burn line! lol
Why the Face??!!!! Your nickname is the same as mine and you had a GF just do a carrib cruise ???!!! that’s twighlight zone stuff man! Same deal, GF brought back some Pyramids and looks like they may be fake. Lit one up last night on her back porch. Nor real burn issues but the cig was packed very light and like yours, the leaves were gray/green. Whatever, doesn’t really change anything for me. Its the thought that counts.
