2009 Regional Editions - Updated
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009
We might be half way in 2009, but Habanos SA has still to finalize the -longer than ever- list of the Regional Edition cigars. From 15 vitolas in last year’s production, this year’s regional edition series will feature 25 vitolas. 30 vitolas were in the original list, however, five did not make the cut, bringing down the number significally. All these releases are now confirmed. The reason this was delayed was that this year, for the first time, it was the local distributor that confirmed the release, rather than Habanos S.A.
If last years list of Regional Editions seemed big, this year’s list seems vast! It is great to so many new regions getting cigars exclusively for their market, but two vitolas for almost every is, I think, needless. The Regional Edition project seems to be going off track and could make cigar smokers loose interest in it…

I’m getting a little disenfranchised by the vast amount of regional releases. One for each market should be the maximum allowed and they should probably release them every 2nd year (on alternate years.) But, as Habanos wil no doubt make massive profits from the releases, I can’t see that happening!
I totally agree with you on that. However, if the number of Regional Edition increases on this pace year after year, it will be inevitable that smokers and collectors will eventually loose interest!
I think in a near furture, we are all looking for ‘Non Limited’ edition instead…. as it might be even more rare than those RE…….
I think if they focused on the quality of the lines they already have that would be a better forcus, though perhaps less lucrative from their perspective. At the end of the day, without happy consumers they sell less cigars…
