5 must have iTunes apps for cigar lovers
Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010Habanos Club is a relatively new application in iTunes, but is one of the most useful for the cigar lover. It is developed by Phoenicia T.A.A. Cyprus, one of Habanos’ largest distributors worldwide. The application has some very informative features, regarding the history of each Brand as well as all their vitolas currently in production. An RSS feed incorporated in the app will keep you updated on any new articles released on the Habanos SA and Phoenicia TAA websites. Another cool feature of the Habanos Plus application is a series of cigar related videos and images from Cuba. Also, all the LCDH shops are listed and bookmarked on google maps within the application. The application is available for free so there is no excuse for not having it installed on your iPhone.
If you like taking tasting notes every time you smoke a cigar, then this app is for you. It might not be as personal as your cigar dossier, but it is handy. It’s tasting menus are fully customisable; you can use the existing tasting templates or create your own. You can also take a picture of the cigar on your phone and attach it to each review. Tasting notes is also suitable for reviewing not only cigars, but wine, whiskies, coffee, beer and many more. The app currently costs €2.39 on iTunes and despite the few bugs that it has, it still is a good buy.
Mobile Stogie is an extensive database of Cuban and non-Cuban cigars, both discontinued and in production. The application contains information on more than 3000 cigars, from 128 diferent brands, most of them being non-cuban. The information on each cigar includes its shape, its dimensions and country of origin. The application also allows you to take a list of the amount of cigars you carry on your humidors. Another useful feature of the application is the ring gauge tool, where you can measure the thickness of your cigar. The application costs €2.99 on iTunes.
Cuban cigars is a database of the Cuban brands and the vitolas currently in production. Each cigar mentioned in the application is followed by a picture. A useful feature of the database is that you can find all the cigars in current production by size and also by brand. The feature that would make this application really worth the money is a directory of cigar shops. Currently, only China, Hong Kong and Macau are available, but the developers have promised a more extensive list in the next update. Cuban Cigars costs €2.99 on iTunes and when the next update comes it will well worth it.
Puro Express is another well developed and useful application every afficionado should have. The home page contains general information about the cigar culture and a set of instruction on how to cut, light and store cigars, for the novice smoker. The large database contains information about all the Cuban cigars currenlty in production, as well as some non Cubans. The details on each cigar include, apart of the measurements, some tasting notes and the developers -generous- score. The search function is very handy, as you can search the cigars depending on their rating, brand, shape, gauge or length. Lastly, the application allows you to add your own simple tasting notes and rating of your cigars, as well as wine, whiskey, tea and coffee. Puro Express is also free in iTunes stores and with its simple interface it deserves a place on your iPhone, iPod or iPad.

Speaking of apps, CigarAuctioneer.com offers an i-Phone app for its cigar auctions.
Just realised that the Buena Vista Social Club orchestra was playing Dubin tonight….shame it wasn’t an outdoors gig as it would have been a lovely soundtrack to a(nother) herf !
I’m deleting that last app in protest !!!!
I agree this 5 apps are great, but my 2 favorites are: Stogie Rate to catalog my cigars and Puff Cigar Review with more then 6700 cigars reviews that help me buy cigars that i didn’t smoke yet.
