Cigar Event in the Porthouse

lfdcsmallOur latest cigar event took place in the new smoking area of the Porthouse Iberico in Dundrum on June 28th 2010, in association with James Fox and the Porthouse. After the success of our May event, in the No Name Bar, we organised an event in the outskirts of Dublin, in an effort to discover Dublin’s finest cigar friendly smoking areas. All the ingredients for a successful event were there; fine weather, great cigars, refreshing beverages, tasty Pintxos, comfortable environment and of course good company. The event was sold out, with more than forty cigar lovers in attendance.

Our cigar lineup for the night started with a preview of the La Flor de Cano Short Robusto, and followed by one of our favourite Robustos of all time, the Ramon Allones Specially Selected. Our cigars were accompanied by some fine Portuguese Cava and Port; the Cabriz Espumante and the Niepoort Tawny, both supplied by Ben Mason of the Wicklow Wine Company and presented by Hubert De Seroux manager of the Port House and fine wine and handmade cigar enthusiast. Hubert also spoiled us with platters of squid, chorizo and tortillas from the kitchen - which we all expect will be winning many culinary awards and acclamation in the near future.

Our tasting consensus:

The La Flor de Cano Short Robusto & Cabriz Espumante Portuguese Cava:

A fresh short cigar, whose mild but developing flavours were complimented by a superb crisp Cava with a zingy finish and were cut through by a beautiful spritz.

Ramon Allones Specially Selected & Niepoort Tawny Port:

We were all surprised that the Port was served chilled, but we are now delighted to recommend that without exception, in summer months, all Tawny Ports should be served chilled forevermore. The Ports flavours were strong enough to stand up to the strong and gutsy earthy and nutty flavours of the Ramon Allones, while at the same time offering a very refreshing glass of “pure nectar”.

The success of the last two events andthe feedback we received from the attendees have made us promise that we will host similar events in the future. Although July may not be the best month to do this, as everyone is escaping to sunny destinations, we will most definitely have another event before Autumn starts kicking in. So stay in touch with us for more details.
