La Tete D’ Or - Brussels
Thursday, April 23rd, 2009
La Tete D’ Or (”The Golden Head”) is a small shop in the heart of Brussels, a stone’s throw from the Grand Place. Eshtablished in 1990, La Tete D’ Or is the most central tobbacconist shop in Brussels, offering a large range of pipes, cigarrettes, smokers accessories and of course…cigars!

Walking into the shop, my eye went straight at the humidor at the end of the room. After asking the shop owner, Mr Vassilis Zouvelis, if I could get in, he released the door and closed it behind me. The well kept walk-in humidor had a large variety of all the well known Cuban brands, along with almost all of the Dominican Davidoff Line. All 2007 and 2008 limited editions were in stock in several boxes, as well as a decent size pile of 25-count boxes of the Ramon Allones Gran Robustos, the only Regional Edition for the Benelux Region.
The prices were very competitive for the European standards, but the same as every other cigar shop in Belgium. All cigars in the country bear a second label, applied by the local distributor, Cubacigar Benelux S.A., with the price of each stick. Below is a sample of the prices you will find in Belgium:
Cohiba Robusto: €17.10
Partagas D4: €10.20
Montecristo No.2: €12.50
RyJ Churchill: €14.20
HdM Double Coronas: €14.20

If you find yourself in Brussels, pay a visit to the La Tete D’ Or, situated in the Rue de la Tête d’Or, just off the Grand Plaice, for a chat with Mr Vassilis and to grab yourselves some of the amazing Ramon Allones Gran Robusto.

I cant get over those prices. I saw a churchill in Dublin last week priced at over 25 euro. No wonder the cigar smoking community is a small one over here.
