If I had to choose one, it would have to be the Por Larranaga Magnificos.
Also, up there at the top would be the H.Upmann Mag50, the J.Lopez Obus and the J.Lopez no2
I think it is a hard call as there are so many fine cigars i have smoked in 2008. But i would rate the Montecristo A as one of the best ones.
My favourite cigar from 2008 would have to be a Rocky Patel Vintage 1990, in the Robusto size. Amazing smoke.
Hard choice for me , But I think it has to be Rocky Patel 1992 . Fantastic smoke from start to finish.
partagas serie d no 4 - great burn, wonderful flavour that changed as the cigar burnt down, lots of smoke……or a montecristo petit edmundo -> both fantastic
I have two favourites; once in a lifetime the Cohiba Pyramide EL01 and my favourite smoke last year was the Partagas Charlottes.
My favourite cigar by a country mile in 2008 was the Punch Robusto. I cannot imagine how a cigar could get any better than this. Unfortunately they always seem to be in short supply, so if you are reading this, and happen to know a supplier, I will put in a good word for you with God, if you share the info. !!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Niall,
If you have any friends in the Arab Emirates, they might be able to sort you out…The Punch Robustos were released for the said region last year…I have to agree with you, the 06 Swiss RE i had last summer was my smoke of the year.
My cigar of 2008 was the Epicure No.2. I have smoked this cigar many times and have unfortunately found it to be inconsistent, but last summer I smoked one while on holiday in Spain, and it was pure indulgence. On this one occasion, all the planets lined up, and all the right boxes were ticked. If only it could be like this everytime.
I so agree with you Dan, you can’t beat a good epicure no.2! You can hardly find 4-5 good ones in a cab of 25. It’s like playing the lotto!
It would be a hard call for me, as there are many that I liked, so if I forget most of the LE’s (always my favourite) it would be worthwhile mentioning Sancho Panza Coronas Gigantes vintage 1997. Very complex and subtle, but giving a perfect cuban taste.
Trinidad Robusto Extra… possibly my best cigar ever. Monte Petit Edmundo is a close 2nd for ‘08
Hi George My most memorable cigar for 2008 was H Upmann Magnum 50 LE 2005 90 mins of fireworks from the beginning to the end.
So many to choose from! For me the Davidoff millenium robusto, followed by an Avo xo 80th anniversary belicoso. In Cubans, Cohiba Pyramid wins, hands down, than the Monte’ Edmundo.
I should have posted up here before but better late than never.
My choice for 2008 is my all time favourite. Partagas D-4. The classics are the best.

I only discovered this blog now but here’s my 2 cents on my favourite of 2008.
I really enjoyed the Cohiba Maduro 5 magicos but only smoked a handful of them because of the price.
I also enjoyed the Partagas P2 and having been a Monte 2 fan, actually was suprised to find I enjoyed the Partagas more.
My favorite smoke of 2008 is probably the Cohiba Siglo VI, (I never met a Cohiba I didn’t like) followed by Partagas Serie D. No 4, and rounded out by Ramon Allones Gigantes.
Looks like Partagas Serie D No 4 won for 2008, but thats so like last year. In that 2009 is almost behind us what are peoples highlights for the last 12 months? - For me its either the Punch Piramide (UK RE), or Monte Sublime (2008 LE).
One of my votes for 08 would have been the 2008 D4. It is so last year, you are right, so one of my votes would be…the 2009 D4
It might actually be a good idea to do a voting for our favourite cigar of 2009, on a separate post. Each one of us will have to vote their 3 favourite cigars of 2009 and we will sum it up at the end of the month…
New post on the way!
Cqamacho Liberty 2008. Best cigar smoked to date. I have 6 left in my box aging for my groomsmen for the day I get married, and I don’t even have a girlfriend.
