Hello Jack and happy new year to you too.
I wouldn't think you have a dead palate, you just need to train it. When you sit down to have a cigar, try to single out anything you feel in your palate and try to associate it with something familiar you have tasted before. It is not easy on the beginning, but once you get used to it it will become easier.
There is a great article <a href="http://www.stogiefresh.com/journal/Cigar_Journal/Cigar_Science/Entries/2007/11/12_Becoming_an_Expert_Cigar_Taster.html" rel="nofollow">here</a> about cigar tasting and techniques to help you. The flavour wheel at the bottom of the page is a great reference and has helped me a lot!

merry Christmas to you and all cigar lovers,
I've read all your blogs about Christmas smokes and i am jealous, i am a daily smoker but can never identify all the flavors that you describe not if none.
is that means i have a dead palate? is there a way to train our palates?
i thank you, doing a great job
