Juan Lopez Obus - French Regional Edition
Friday, November 28th, 2008Here we are breaking new ground with the first ever online review for Cigars.ie. The lucky cigar is the Obus RE by Juan Lopez, made exclusively for the French Region. Yiorgos was fortunate to pick up two of these cigars in Dublins famous Decent Cigar Emporium.

We begin our evening by meeting at my house, sitting in front of the open fire and eagerly anticipating these unique treats. The Obus is a campanas, the wrapper is almost dark with slight veins showing. This is a very well presented cigar that upon closer examination is very tightly packed. The new red and gold Juan Lopez label is only complimented by a second label that distinguishes that this cigar is made specially for the French market.
Upon lighting, this cigar gives a very distinct punch, however during the first third the taste becomes mellow and pleasant. It becomes clear that this cigar is very complex, exhibiting earthy tastes along with a hint of cocoa. The draw is very consistent as it burns evenly through the first third.

The second third does not surprise although subtle hints of wood are present. The cocoa and earth flavors are stronger but still very well balanced. The ash sits nicely on the cigar, only to prove the good construction of the Obus.
Smoking towards the end this cigar stays true to its consistency and is very cool on the palette.
Overall Juan Lopez have excelled in this regional edition, proving to the industry that they can release a very special cigar that we hope to come across again, hopefully in regular production.

I picked up 2 of these and had one on new years day. Great smoke, but a bit pricey.
